Assumptions

Everything seems obvious.

You see. You hear. You know.

But have you ever checked?

You sit here.

You read these words.

The room is here.
The body is here.
Thoughts are here.

Everything seems clear.

Or does it?

A quote

Our eyes are wide open, and we see reality perfectly clearly.
This is so obvious that it lies beyond all possible doubt.
And yet it is not true.

Our vision is so clouded by the emotional debris of selfhood
that what we call naked reality is in fact only a faint glimmer
perceived through tightly shut eyelids—just enough light
filtering through to illuminate an inner dreamscape.

In our search for truth, God, meaning, higher consciousness,
union with God, bliss, salvation, or whatever spiritual prize
we may be chasing, the self is never subjected to critical examination.

We simply assume that we are what we think we are,
and that reality is what we believe it to be,
and we proceed from there.

We accept these assumptions as fixed and certain,
and continue on from that point.

In doing so, the fundamental error—from which all others arise—
has already been made and is protected from being seen or corrected.

What growth, what development is possible
if we never discover that we are lying in a glass coffin,
with “reality” being piped into us like background music in a department store?

It sounds exaggerated

Is it really like that?

You see what is there.
You hear sounds.
You move through your day.

What could be wrong with that?

Look closely

A sound appears.

A thought says:
“A car.”

🔹 What is actually there?

A sound.
A thought.

Nothing more.

If you want to look deeper:
🔹 Investigate thoughts

The assumption happens instantly

The thought says:
“I know what this is.”

And it is believed.

Without checking.

And here is the key

The same happens with the “I”.

There is a sensation in the body.
Maybe pressure in the chest.
Or tension in the head.

A thought appears:

“I am tense.”

What is actually there?

🔹 A sensation
🔹 A thought

Can you find someone who is tense?

The assumption stays unseen

It is not checked.

It is simply assumed:

🔹 There is someone
🔹 Who experiences this
🔹 Who does this

This is what the quote points to

Not that something is wrong.

But that it is never checked
what is actually there.

The basic mistake

Everything starts here:

“I am here.”

And from there, thinking, searching, and explaining begin.

But is that true?

🔹 What happens without that thought?

No analyzing.
No explaining.

Just looking.

Very simple

Hearing happens.
Seeing happens.
Thoughts appear.

The simple question

🔹 Where is the one doing this?

🔹 Seeing through the I-illusion

Closing

The closer you look,
the less certain it becomes.

And this is where the investigation begins.
