Awakening is probably not what you think it is

What do you imagine when you hear the word “awakening”?

Something big?
Something special?
Maybe even something unreachable?

In direct experience, it turns out to be something very different.

What do you actually imagine?

When you hear the word “awakening” –
what comes up?

Something big?
Something special?
Maybe even something sacred?

A person who understands everything.
Who is always calm.
Who somehow stands above it all.

Maybe someone who is “further” than others.
Clearer. Better.

Or:

Something you will probably never reach yourself.

When I talk about it

When I tell someone what I do, something very similar often happens.

A short moment of silence.
Then a smile.

Something like:

“Ah, I see.”
and
“Okay…”

And I can tell:

It gets filed away somewhere.
Somewhere in the direction of “a bit strange”.

Not in a mean way.
But far away from everyday life.

The hidden assumption

There is often something very specific behind this:

Awakening is for special people.
For monks.
For gurus.
For someone else – but not for me.

Or:

Maybe it doesn’t really exist at all.

Let’s check

Not as an idea.

Right now.

What is actually here?

Right here

You might be sitting somewhere right now.

There is seeing.
There is hearing.
There are thoughts.

Maybe a sensation in the body.
Maybe calm.
Maybe restlessness.

Nothing special.

The first shift

At some point in the investigation, something very simple becomes clear:

There is no one to be found who is doing this.

Thoughts appear.
Sensations arise.
Actions happen.

But:

There is no one controlling it.

And then?

Many think this is where “awakening” is done.

But this is just the beginning.

What falls away after that

More and more assumptions drop.

Very ordinary ones.

For example:

That something specific has to happen for things to be “right”.
That some experiences are better than others.
That something is missing.

Or:

That the world consists of separate things, apart from you.

Look here

A sound.

Is it separate from you?
Or simply there?

A thought.

Does it come from somewhere?
Or does it just appear?

A feeling.

Does it belong to anyone?

It becomes simpler – and unfamiliar

Many expect:

More clarity.
More control.
More peace.

What actually happens:

Things become simpler.

But not necessarily the way you imagined.

More ordinary than expected

The body keeps reacting.
Thoughts keep appearing.

Sometimes sadness.
Sometimes joy.
Sometimes just an ordinary moment.

Only:

The story around it loses its weight.

Not a better version of you

Awakening does not make you a better person.

Not calmer.
Not more loving.
Not special.

It removes something:

The assumption that there is someone who needs to be all of that.

That’s why it seems so unspectacular

No fireworks.
No special state.

Rather:

Something falls away.

And what remains is what has always been here.

Why this is hard to believe

Because the idea is so strong.

That it must be something big.
Something rare.
Something unreachable.

And yet:

It is already here.

All the time.

The only way to find out

Don’t believe it.
Don’t try to understand it.

Look.

One last question

Very simple:

Is there someone here who is living this life?

Or is it simply happening?

      So starten viele.

Vielleicht kannst du einmal ganz ruhig schauen:

Wenn du all das kurz beiseite lässt –
      Liebe, Herzöffnung, Energie, Vertrauen –

was ist dann jetzt direkt erfahrbar?

      Ganz simpel.

      Hören.
      Sehen.
      Körperempfindungen.
      Gedanken.
